Expectations of a grape yield in 2004 28% higher than that of 2003 have been reduced somewhat by extreme heat in major inland regions. Some forecasts, which have put the return to balance between grape supply and demand in Australia as far back as 2007, will need to be revised. As winemakers know only too well through bitter experience, you never count a vintage until it’s in the tank.
