It’s still early into the 1998 vintage, but the combination of heat and dry weather has turned tables upside down at several Southcorp processing centres. While all varieties tend to be ripening earlier than usual, they’re also ripening out of sequence in some regions, with shiraz being harvested prior to chardonnay in some of the inland areas. That is rare.
