Grape splitting, Adelaide style

Adelaide has long considered itself as the intellectual heartland of Australian wine, taking great pride in the wine content of its pubs, restaurants and its media. Perhaps, however, cracks are beginning to appear. In an article entitled ‘Shattered dreams on wine-shop floor’ published last Saturday in the business section of Adelaide’s daily newspaper The Advertiser, writer Tania Bawden makes the following comment about grape prices: ‘Grape growers have been caught in the middle, with prices dropping for oversupplied varieties such as cabernet and sauvignon.’
