Gartner goes quietly

Gartner Wines and about ten associated companies have been put into receivership. This comes as little surprise to those in the wine industry who have watched this company since its inception in 1999. Again, the hard lessons are there for those willing to learn from them. Some of the A$30 million or thereabouts spent on one of the most spectacular winery developments in Australia might have been allocated to marketing instead. Gartner crushed 7,000 tonnes in 2002. It is harder and more expensive than ever before to create and launch a significant wine brand.
