Everything Auld is New Again

The historic Hunter wine label of Tulloch has been split apart and sold as part of Southcorp’s rationalisation process. While Sydney banker David Clarke has acquired the Tulloch Glen Elgin vineyards and 2300 tonne winery for his Poole’s Rock and Cockfighter’s Ghost wine labels, the Tulloch brand itself, stock on hand and cellar door club have been bought by Inglewood Wines. Inglewood has also purchased an ongoing supply of fruit for the brand and will lease the winery until July 2003. But not only has David Clarke acquired these assets, he has also signed up former Southcorp winemaker and winery manager Patrick Auld, who was until recently winemaker for Southcorp at Tulloch and Lindemans. More recently Auld enjoyed a short stay as winery manager at Seppelt Great Western in Victoria, a surprising move for one with such deep roots in the Hunter. Southcorp is focusing its entire Hunter production at Rosemount at Denman in the Upper Hunter Valley.
