Thanks for taking the time to pick up this newsletter or for subscribing to it. Since deciding to make a living writing about wine, this is the biggest project I have undertaken. I suppose that every wine writer entertains the thought of running his or her own publication, and a few of us are crazy enough to start one up. What will make this one so different? For a start, it will be genuinely written for the interested consumer. Stories will only be given space if they are directly relevant to what you can buy or will be able to buy. Too many wine columns look like they’re written for other wine writers to read. This newsletter won’t be. Because of my involvement in wine journalism and because I get to taste many wines in advance of their release to compile The Australian Wine Handbook, I’m in a fortunate position to tell you what to look out for before many wines are released. Many wine columns seek to promote wines that are already sold out, or else are disappearing fast through no fault other than lead times and advertising. This newsletter is written mere days before you see it and it will be able to alert you in advance of wines I think you should try. This newsletter carries no advertising. I do not consult to any wine company, I am not employed by one and I have no share holding in any company connected to wine. I do not sell wine and I have no barrow to push, other than my respect for the quality of Australian wine. I could not be any more independent than I am. Most importantly, I’m excited by wine in Australia and I hope you will feel that excitement. Through this newsletter I hope you can share in my appetite for my work and enjoy your wine drinking the more for it. Like you, I’m a wine enthusiast, through and through. Australian wine is never boring and there is always something to say about it, usually very positive. Thank you for your interest in my newsletter. Jeremy Oliver.
