It is a fitting thing that Don McWilliam, Chairman of McWilliam’s Wines, has been awarded an Order of Australia. The McWilliam family has been a stalwart in the Griffith region for many years, and before Don’s retirement from executive duties in 1993 (as CEO), he had notched up an impressive 45 vintages with the family business. Named as a Patron of the Wine Industry in 1994 and a recipient of the Graham Gregory Award in 1995, Don McWilliam is a larger-than-life character who was instrumental in creating the Maurice O’Shea Award for service to Australian wine. A warm and humorous guy, Don McWilliam has served on more wine industry boards, councils and foundations than most aspirant heads of state, and maintains an active contact with the McWilliams business and its CEO, Kevin McLintock.
