1998 was Don’s 25th vintage as his company’s winemaker. Since 1973 he has witnessed much of Victoria’s development as a serious wine producing state as a very active participant and I’ve no doubt at all that his present wines are his finest. Although I’ve yet to sample it, Lewis has confidently broadcasted that his 1998 shiraz is Mitchelton’s best ever. Knowing his fondness for the stuff, that would surely be an appropriate reward for some long, hard years.
