Jacky Wong, a Chinese businessman whose interests in beverage distribution in Hong Kong and mainland China include something like 150 stores, is close to securing ownership of two Western Australian wine brands, Woodside Valley Estate (Margaret River) and Western Range (Perth Hills). Wong, whose company Palinda Wines operates the Western Australian brand of Palinda, is seeking to expand his access to premium Australian material. The company’s Palinda table wine brand has created a significant presence in the Hong Kong and China markets. While the prices for both deals have not been revealed, it is believed that while the Woodside Valley Estate deal includes its brand and stock, it does not incorporate its vineyard holdings.
