Shortly to arrive in Australia is Castelgiocondo’s Brunello di Montalcino 1993. A sumptuous and fine-grained red, it is still flanked by fine, bony tannins and will clearly reward patience in the cellar. Sweet and cedary, with fresh brambly aromas of violets, cherries and plums and an exotic scent of brandied fruits, it presents an excellent length of dusty, harmonious flavour and a sweet/savoury finish. Retailing around $54, it rates 18.2 and can be expected to drink best between 2001-2005+.
