Beringer Blass, the Foster’s-owned merged entity between Mildara Blass and Beringer Wines (which according to a current rumour might be about to be snapped up by Diageo while Scottish & Newcastle absorb Foster’s Brewing), has opened what its MD Terry Davis describes as ‘the world’s most advanced premium winery’. Costing $30 million, the Wolf Blass winery will process around 20,000 tonnes in the 2001 vintage and can be expanded to 75,000 tonnes. ‘Australia’s investment in wine processing capacity had not kept up with increased vineyard planting’, said Davis. Dead right. How I’d love to own a business that sells stainless steel tanks right now!
