The Australian Wine Institute (AWRI) is smarting at an article in the Adelaide Advertiser which included a statement attributed to Mr Brian Dolling, Managing Director of Nukorc (an artificial wine closure), that AWRI scientists claim Nukorc’s product to be the ‘most technically correct synthetic closure available’. A similar comment also appears on Decanter magazine’s website (www.decanter.com). The tasting in London which prompted these remarks was that referred to in January’s OnWine (page 2). Mr Dolling apparently wants to do a similar tasting for the Australian wine media early this year, which he hopes will coincide with the release of a refereed paper which will present the results of 12 months of comparisons by the AWRI of 14 different wine closures. I can hardly wait. Neither, I expect can the AWRI.
