The Australian Wine Export Council (AWEC) has received a Europe Business Review award for its ‘most significant’ contribution to Australia-Europe economic relations. Commenting that Australian wine sales in Europe had increased from $119 million in 1991/92 to $295 million in 1995/96, Europe Business Review publisher Peter Charlton said that Australian wines are no longer a novelty in Britain, but a standard product. ‘They command 8% of the market by volume and 13% by value’, he said.
