Angie Morgan’s Wine Exhibition

Over the centuries wine has been the subject of much European art, but has still perhaps to be discovered as a major source of visual inspiration by the Australian art community at large. Melbourne artist Angie Morgan might have changed all that. Having painted her first vineyard in the autumn of 1996, she has assembled an exhibition of related works entitled ‘Season of Mists, a Journey Through The Vineyards of Victoria’. The vineyard which began the theme was Warramate in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. Since that painting she has visited over sixty vineyards in several Victorian regions, capturing the pride and the personality of the vineyard workers on canvas, before wanting to rediscover their environment from an aerial perspective. Several images have grown from this idea, including the one Angie has kindly consented to be used as the cover for this issue. It’s my view that Angie Morgan’s work should not only be encouraged, but it should be owned. Her exhibition of water colours is at The George Gallery, 129 Fitzroy St, St Kilda, Victoria, from October 26 to November 7. Enquires to Fran Clark on (03) 9593 9077.
