[question] Question submitted by Tom Blackburn. Is a little air movement in a cellar really detrimental to development? The cooler in my cellar throws a feeble breeze onto a few of the bottles directly opposite. It’s difficult to envisage this causing vibrations so as to disturb the wine. Yet I often read that any air movement at all is a bad thing. [/question] [answer] Frankly, I think a small amount of air movement is a good thing, and I have on several occasions encouraged people with damp or humid cellars to install small fans that move air around from time to time to help prevent mould from growing over the labels of their wines. As long as there is no vibration, as you explain, you should have no problems at all. Provided the seals of the bottles are intact, I can’t think of a single reason why a small amount of air movement would be a bad thing. [/answer]
