The Riverina, a region once used to flood irrigation, is following its Biblical theme with its first ever locust plague. With activity forecasts suggesting a peak period from early to mid October, growers are being encouraged to use ground applications of insecticides to reduce their impact. With the chemical residue issue at top of mind, growers are being encouraged to ensure they deploy the correct spray. Landholder meetings have helped alert locals make regular checks and monitor the process.
