A Winery Tour with a Twist

Hot on the heels of a letter published in Brisbane’s Courier-Mail newspaper, which purported to justify Queensland’s refusal to adopt daylight-saving hours in summer by declaring after a recent heatwave ‘And what would those in favour of daylight saving be saying now?’ comes another story that quite frankly could only happen in Queensland. A business on the Sunshine Coast, a simply superb region of Queensland populated by seaside resorts, excellent beaches and golf courses, is now promoting tours around the area’s emergent wine industry, some of which come with a twist. Part of the tourism menu on offer by Nev of Sunshine Wine Tours is a Full Day Bordello Winery/Brewery Tour. Nev, who appears on his brochure sporting a lemon yellow shirt and contrasting dark glasses, has struck up a deal with local legal brothel Scarlet Harem to provide what his brochure describes as an ‘extremely explicit’ visit to this local business. Nev’s brochure does however suggest that the bordello visit is subject to ‘establishment availability’, and that the only free samples on offer on that particular day out are only redeemable at the wineries and/or brewery that constitute the remainder of the trip. There is a major wine tourism conference scheduled for the Margaret River region in early May. Perhaps it is not too late to invite Nev from Queensland as a keynote speaker?
