Two of Australia’s most contentious regional boundaries have been settled. Coonawarra now includes the Robertson’s Well vineyard, while Heathcote now formally includes Greytown, Redesdale and Tooboorak. While neither decision, undertaken by the Federal Court and the Geographic Indications Committee respectively, represents a high water mark in wine intellect or integrity, at least the damaging fights over these boundaries can now be called off. The partner in the law firm hired by Foster’s to argue that the Roberton’s Well vineyard should be included inside Coonawarra indirectly inferred that this vineyard played a significant role in the development of the region’s international reputation. An amazing effort, really, considering it only came into yield a short number of years ago. . .
