You gotta hand it to BRL for timing. Mere days after its Banrock Station wetlands project was listed by the Ramsar environmental organisation as a site of world significance, the company was pinged in SA’s Environment, Resources and Development Court for dumping illegal effluent. BRL admitted to two separate breaches of its environmental licence at Renmark in February 2000 and June 2001, but pleaded not guilty to five other charges. Some are still furious at BRL for constructing its huge Barossa Valley Estate winery in the environmentally sensitive Marananga district. Sometimes PR can be very selective! n
