Are we getting a little too cocky?

More than likely and it’s official. The OnWine Report has been saying it for years, but now even The Australian Wine & Brandy Corporation agrees. Its chairman, the Hon. David Brownbill, is reported in the February issue of the corporation’s newletter The Wine Contact, as saying: ‘One of the greatest risks facing the Australian wine industry is complacency. The Australian wool industry thought that it was invincible, but it was bought down to earth with a thud! We must continue to concentrate on the key areas of quality and integrity, research and development, market access and market intelligence if we are to keep ahead of the competition.’ Many of the wines that cross my desk suggest that this most fundamental piece of advice is still being ignored by a large number of Australian wineries.
