Ever wondered what Jeffrey Grosset might do with Eden Valley fruit? Now you have the chance to see. Yalumba and Grosset have announced that they will jointly establish a new wine intended to reassert the Eden Valley’s place amongst the world’s premier riesling regions. Grosset and Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba’s owner, have identified two vineyards whose fruit they believe will best suit their joint aims for the wine. The fruit will be evenly divided between the two makers, while the finished wine will be assembled from the various parcels they produce. ‘It’s less about volume and profit than about working together to elevate the status of riesling and the Eden Valley’ says Hill Smith. To be bottled under a Stelvin closure, the wine will be released sometime in the second half of 2002. I’m looking forward to it. Will they call it Grill Smith Estate?
