Brisbane-based wine enthusiast Tyson Stelzer has released a small book published by Wine Press that shows how to create a climate controlled wine storage cabinet for around $1000. While the specifics of how to do this might interest only the pure handy type, a category into which I do not alas qualify, the book is actually crammed with all sorts of answers to all sorts of cellaring questions. I, for instance, need to get a better thermostat for an area in my office that will be used to keep wine. The book has the answer, plus a website for the very device I need. It recommends a racking system that can be used in any cellar, and deals directly with issues like temperature, humidity and vibration that affect anyone who is interested in keeping wine. In all, whatever the size or shape of your wine collection, the book’s asking price of just $9.95 is a very sound investment, for which you can virtually be guaranteed at least one good new idea worth testing. Cellaring Wine: Do It Yourself Solutions is generally available in book and wine stores.
