2000 Eve storms wreak havoc on French forests

270 million trees in the central French forests were decapitated or blown down during an unprecedented attack of coastal weather, prompting dire forecasts for the immediate and long-term future of the French oak industry and the quality world wine industry at large. Fortunately initial fears were exaggerated, but over the next three to five years there will still be restrictions on the supply of premium French oak. Privately owned oak from lesser forests is likely to fill the breach in the short term.
