OnWine Quiz #5

The highly technological question offered in Quiz #4 drew a few responses, not many of which identified the remarkable Hickinbotham family of Victoria as the crew responsible for the use of small bottles of wine for domestic Australian airline flights. David Hallett of Floreat in WA wins two bottles of wine from the family’s latest winemaking endeavour at Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Incidentally, the imaginative Hickinbothams have been intimately involved in such significant aspects of modern Australian wine as the rebirth of Coonawarra and the development of a patented technique for carbonic maceration. Quiz #5 has more of an artistic flavour. One of my favourite Australian wine labels comes from a coastal region and specialises in pinot noir and chardonnay. It also bears the image of its proprietor’s face, albeit wearing a rather outdated article of headgear. Whose is the label in question? Send your answer to OnWine Quiz #5, 565 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn, Victoria, 3122. The first correct answer opened on October 31, 1997 wins a pair of bottles of chardonnay from this rather shameless producer, whose identity will of course be revealed in the next issue!
