German capital drives Langi forward

Mount Langi Ghiran, one of Australia’s leading shiraz producers, is building a new winery and is shortly to almost treble its vineyard area to around 140 ha in Victoria and other states. The company has a new controlling partner in Mr Riquet Hess, former managing director of H. Sichel Sohne, owner of Germany’s Blue Nun. Trevor Mast, winemaker since 1980, retains his shareholding and remains responsible for all vineyard and winemaking operations. While he is presently fossicking around for existing old vine shiraz vineyards to add depth and richness to crops from younger Langi vines, he says that the original Langi estate will remain the core of the brand’s investment and quality and wines like the flagship Langi Shiraz will remain 100% from the old original estate vines.
