Smithbrook’s Bridget Nichols was the first entry opened to correctly identify the winery at which Andrew Hardy is presently making some stellar wine, that of Knappstein in the Clare Valley. Unfortunately Bridget doesn’t qualify for the second bottle of Knappstein wine, since she didn’t nominate his previous winery as Petaluma. Unusual, that, as Ritchie Benaud might say, since she works for the same company! But never mind Bridget, we all hope you enjoy your Knappstein with enormous relish. Well done. The next OnWine Quiz, #10 is really a poor excuse for a reader service to this humble correspondent. The winner will need to do nothing other than to provide simple genius and creativity. I will even take the advice which the winning answer will ultimately represent. The other day I returned to my home in Melbourne from a dour, hot and humid day driving around the outer reaches of Sydney. I had managed to shield myself from the day’s news, focusing only on the specific tasks I had set myself in Tinsletown. On my return to Melbourne I picked up The Age and was immediately devastated not once, but three times. First up I read that the Kennett Government had agreed to let the Grollos build what will inevitably become the world’s second, third and ultimately fortieth tallest building. Secondly, the pages were covered with the Mark Waugh/Shane Warne scandal which has frankly left me shattered. The third blow was to read that the MCG might actually be covered by an artificial surface. Stupefied with shock, I needed a drink. What drink, do you think, I might best have resorted to? The most creative and medically correct answer received by January 13, 1999 wins a bottle of something appropriate from my cellar and my eternal gratitude.
