Tahbilk a Chateau No Longer

A famous central Victorian vineyard has not only become part of a new sub-region, but has a ‘new’ name as well. The property until recently known as Chateau Tahbilk is now simply Tahbilk, which now resides in a sub-region of the Goulburn Valley known as Nagambie Lakes. Anticipating a likely phasing out of the word ‘Chateau’ from the labels of Australian wine, managing director Alister Purbrick has acted in advance, saying the change ‘allows us to proclaim we are proudly Australian with no need to use terms inherited from other countries and cultures of bygone days’. This decision coincides with Purbrick’s introduction of a new Reserve Shiraz label, a meaty, leathery wine from the 1994 vintage which retails around $65.
