The American Tasting Institute (ATI), which purports to recognise quality in food & beverage and housewares, recently named Wyndham Estate’s Bin 555 1998 Shiraz (14.8, drink 2000-2003) as a gold medallist, Grand Import Winner and Best Imported Wine at the fifteenth annual American Gold Medal Food & Beverage Awards held at New York City’s Carnegie Hall. This sound, but most basic of wines, received a perfect score in the competition, ahead of other gold medal winners of similar quality in Wyndham Estate’s Bin 777 1999 Semillon and the Jacob’s Creek 1999 Shiraz Cabernet. If ever indisputible proof was needed that there are too many wine competitions in the world, this certainly is it.
