Frankland Estate Brings Riesling to Melbourne

You have to hand it to Frankland Estate for its dual efforts with riesling. Not only has the small Western Australian maker established a leading international riesling event, but it has responded at the coalface with a series of innovative and internationally inspired expressions of riesling has seen it shoot towards the top of the riesling pile in this country. Right now, given the reinvigorated interest being shown in the grape, that’s no mean achievement. The third, biannual Frankland Estate International Riesling Tasting will be held over the 9th and 10th of February 2004 at Melbourne’s Federation Square. It will showcase a selection of more than 30 of the world’s finest rieslings from 20 producers from Austria, Germany, France, America, New Zealand and Australia, many of which are not available locally. The event also features a Producer’s Exhibition featuring two current vintages from each participating producer. Ernest Loosen from leading German producer Dr Loosen and Bernhard Breuer from Georg Breuer Wines will help lead workshop discussions around the ageing potential of riesling, the role of terroir and the secrets behind botrytis rieslings. The event concludes with a major riesling dinner at Circa, The Prince. To make a booking or request a brochure, please contact Frankland Estate on (08) 9855-1544 or by emailing [email protected].
