I’m not normally in the habit of publicly congratulating winemakers for success in wine shows, but today I have little choice but to make an exception. It was announced last Thursday night that the winner of The Amorim Cork Australia Trophy for the Best Shiraz at the entire Adelaide Wine Show was a pretty hot wine from Wolf Blass, its 2001 Platinum Label Shiraz. Based in Portugal, Amorim is one of the world’s largest producers of wine corks. The bottles of the winning wine, along with 80% of its entire make, were sealed with screwcaps. Oh my.
