Despite all the talk about how hard it is to sell wine domestically, the Australian wine market for the year ending July 31 was up by 4.2% by volume. Wine bottled in glass containers less than two litres in size was up by 8.6%, while cask wines increased their sales by 1.1%. The relativities of casks vs bottles is interesting, since 11.7% more cask wine was sold in Australia than bottled wine for the year ending July, against a figure the year before of 20% more wine sold in casks. Wine imports continue to surge, with 16.9% more wine being sold in the year ended in July against the previous year, at an increase in value of 22%.
