With 277,749 tonnes in the can, Southcorp has joined The Hardy Wine Company in posting another record vintage in 2004. While the figures for Beringer Blass and Orlando have yet to be officially released, one would assume that McGuigan Simeon will also record a similar result. Contrary to the views of many people today, the size of this vintage is good for the nation at large. The brands that are presently driving Australia’s recognition overseas need wine to sell, and Southcorp isn’t the only large maker to have depleted much of its bulk wine inventory over the last twelve months.
