Second Release for First Semillon

Three of the Hunter Valley’s better known family-owned wineries are shortly to release the second vintage of the First Hunter Valley Semillon. Drayton’s, McWilliam’s and Tyrrell’s corroborate to create the Hunter’s equivalent of Beaujolais Nouveau, which is released for sale on March 30, 1999. The first case will be delivered by seaplane to Doyle’s at Watson’s Bay for an official launch that day. You will be able to buy the wine for a short period only from leading NSW restaurants, cafes and bistros. Typically one of the first of Australia’s wine regions to commence harvest, the Lower Hunter Valley’s uniquely flinty, dry semillon is more highly respected as a cellaring wine than one for early consumption.
