A large but unquantifiable percentage of Asian wine drinkers drink wine for their health. This message, in the case of Thailand for example, comes directly from royalty. Thailand is strongly influenced by a book entitled The Save Your Heart Wine Book, which links levels of measured transresveratrol to health benefits from wine. Transresveratrol influences the balance between HDL and LDL cholesterols. Canadian tests show transresveratrol levels of 4.72 g/l for the Cote de Nuits and 3.79 g/l for the Cote de Beaune. Bourgogne rouge is also recommended highly, while Australian wines have an average of only 1.47 g/l.
