The International Wine and Spirit Competition, London, 1996

Australian wine managed to distinguish itself at this important wine show, held each year since 1969, winning 15 gold medals, 55 silver and 65 bronze. Wines are initially judged against others from the same region, before the best are selected for the major awards: the national and international trophies. Gold medals are awarded to wines with scores between 90-100, silver medals between 85-89 and bronze between 80-84. Worldwide Section: The Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Trophy for the Best Blended Red Wine worldwide: Peter Lehmann Cellar Collection Cabernet blend 1989. The Mission Hill Trophy for the best Chardonnay worldwide: Miranda Grey Series Chardonnay 1994 (Barossa Valley, Coonawarra). International Trophies: The Chris Hancock Trophy for the best Shiraz: Leasingham Classic Clare Shiraz 1994.
