Brand's Laira

BrandŐs has recently experienced a change in ownership following its sale by McWilliam's to Casella Family Brands, also owner of Peter Lehmann and YellowTail. Casella was after a cabernet producer for its expanding stable and has done very well to acquire this mature Coonawarra vineyard and brand. I'm excited to see what its winemaking and viticultural teams will do given this unique opportunity since Brand's has hovered around the top end for years without ever staking a claim with consistent conviction. The label still has an air of unfulfilled potential, the kind of potential that is occasionally revealed with some excellent releases under the Foundation Shiraz and Blockers Cabernet Sauvignon labels.
