Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Vineyard Syrah 2021
A finely balanced Rhone-inspired shiraz whose delicate, musky fragrance of small red and black berries, cedary oak and dried herbs reveals more intensity of dark fruit and dark floral notes as it breathes. Long and supple, it’s medium in weight, delivering a plush core of pastille-like dark fruit supported by a fine-grained spine of drying, crunchy tannins that extends long and savoury. There are indeed some herbal whole bunch notes, but these do settle back with aeration and should evolve as the wine acquires more age.

Frankland Estate
Firstly it was Frankland Estate's collection of European-inspired Rieslings that captured popular attention, but these days its red wines are of near-comparable merit. Let by an outstanding Olmo's Reward and Isolation Ridge Vineyard shiraz, the reds have developed wonderful elegance and balance, based on better viticulture and vines of greater maturity. The Riesling collection continues to provide me with one of the more enjoyable tasting experiences in Australian wine.
