McWilliam’s Hilltops Shiraz 2014

Tasted at 11 years of age, this is a pleasingly complex, perfumed, spicy, floral and aromatic cooler climate and medium-bodied shiraz now showing nuances of leather and cedary development. There’s a hit of mint and licorice about its generous, medium-bodied and fruit-driven palate that’s underpinned by a fine, grainy and faintly ferrous spine. It drives along with pleasing length towards a balanced and almost savoury finish. Not at all bad for a wine priced in the low $20 area upon release!

McWilliam's
McWilliamŐs is one of the larger family-owned Australian wine companies that, like several others, is based near Griffith in NSW. It has greatly reduced the number of premium wines under the McWilliamŐs brand, but still includes its 1877 blend of Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon and Hilltops shiraz, as well as its recently rebadged Morning Light Botrytis Semillon. Each of these labels can produce exceptional wines.
