Chateau Margaux Cabernet Blend 1996

Slowly unfolding a heady, floral bouquet of violets, dark berries, cigarboxy oak and powerful gravelly undertones, this supremely elegant and complete claret delivers a palate of wondrous length, elegance and balance. Underpinned by a fine-grained spine of tight-knit mineral tannins, it’s medium to fullish in weight and flaunts its remarkable youthfulness. Its drive and flavour persist forever and there’s absolutely nothing out of place. An astonishing wine, with decades ahead.

Chateau Margaux
One of the stellar chateaux of the left bank of Bordeaux, Chateau Margaux was one of the five recognised First Growths of the 1855 Classification. Unquestionably the star performer within the commune of Margaux, its wines typically reflect an elegance and refinement, plus a balance and completeness that enables them to cellar superbly for many decades. The chateau draws from 80ha of red varieties (75% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot, 2% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot) and also has 12 ha planted to sauvignon blanc for its Pavillon Blanc, one of the finest white crafted in Bordeaux.
